Listening to: "Waiting Ain't Easy" by Evan Honer & Michal Leah
Being a musician has been one of my more rewarding hobbies. I started playing bass guitar in my early teens when my older brother needed a bass player in his band. He did a great job pitching it to me. He told me the bass guitar was super easy to learn. Maybe it was easy to learn, but mastering it, at least to the modest extent that I have, was no easy task. That was a really exciting time for me, though. Before long, I had purchased my very first bass guitar and bass amp: a sunburst Epiphone Les Paul with a Crate 100W bass combo amp.

I've played in a number of bands over the years. My best teenage memories come from the time I played with the band Cloning Louis. I think it was when I started playing with this band that I realized I was going to be a musician for the rest of my life. It was such a fun experience, and I met one of my closest friends through that band. The singer/songwriter from Cloning Louis is still making music and can be found on all of the major streaming services under the moniker "Gomez Addams." I strongly recommend you check him out: https://gomezaddams.bandcamp.com/
There were a few bands in between, but the next chapter in my "music career" began when I met singer/songwriter Anthony Doran and we eventually started the band You're Among Friends. I can't even believe that I've been playing with Anthony for nearly 2 decades at this point! We've had a few hiatuses throughout the years, but we're still kickin'! The last album we released was titled "Good Enough Sometimes" and it came out in 2022.

In the past 25 years, I've generally only played with bands that play original music. I never had anything against cover bands, but I think I found them to be a little bit intimidating. The idea of learning an entire catalog of music and performing for money felt like a whole new kind of pressure.
With that in mind, this finally brings me to the part of this post that explains the title! My friend, co-worker, and the drummer from You're Among Friends recently offered me an opportunity to play in one of his other bands. And yes, you guessed it! It's a cover band. They play a mix of classic rock, 90s rock, modern country, and probably anything else they feel like! I attended my first band practice last night, and I have to say, it felt so good to play music again. It has been almost two years since I'm played with a group. I think it went really well, too! I still have quite a bit of material to learn, but that will come with time. I'll be performing with this new band, The DB Project for the first time on March 14th at The Shop in Painesville, OH. - https://www.shopbarandgrilltogo.com - I'm really excited for this!
