Listening to: "The List" by Metric
It has been so exciting having music in my life again. I spent the bulk of the last 2 years without any major musical endeavors. I played a couple of shows with my long standing band, You're Among Friends (https://youreamongfriends.wordpress.com), but those were few and far between. In 2025, something that felt mostly dormant has awoken, and it has been a lot of fun!

I already shared all of the details about my first gig with The DB Project a few weeks ago, but since then, I've had a couple more great experiences. The first one was something I haven't done since 2007; recording music in an actual recording studio! Dave Koehler of Coals and Ashes invited me to join him in studio to record some new tunes. We spent a day at Lava Room Recording last weekend and it was so much fun! This was the first time I have ever showed up to a recording session without knowing what we were going to record. It honestly felt pretty cool to learn the song on the spot, come up with a catchy bass part, and actually record it! It was a really great day, and I'm looking forward to more!

And then here we are a week later, and The DB Project had another gig! This time it was at Jeanne's Joynt in Eastlake, OH. The preparation for this show wasn't without the drama. For starters, I'll say that adding even more tunes to the setlist was perhaps a wee bit stressful. As I believe I've shared before, I've never played such a high volume of material before. When playing original music, I've only ever played a 30-45 minute set. But all-in-all, this has been an exciting challenge. I honestly think I'm experiencing growth as a musician for the first time in over a decade. Learning so much music has been really great and I'm learning all kinds of new styles!

Aside from all of the songs I've been learning, our one guitarist/singer had an incident at work that prevented him from playing guitar with us last night. So we also had to shake up the setlist even more last minute! Another challenge, but I feel like I put in the hard work and it paid off. There were at least 2 songs that we played that I have never even practiced with the group, and they went perfectly fine! So fun!
With all that said, it was a great gig! Jeanne's Joynt was a fun place to play. We had a great crowd, too! Maybe not quite as big as the crowd we had at The Shop a few weeks ago, but they made up for it with energy!
Lastly, I'd like to mention that I've had so much support from a friend of mine that has made all of this feel so much more fun and special. I don't know; it has just been really great. And now for some more pictures from each of the experiences mentioned above!
